Meet Dave Sorrell
Dave Sorrell is a professional engineer, longtime Columbia resident, and former Director of City of Columbia Utilities with more than 24 years of experience serving the community.
Over the course of his career, Dave worked his way through the ranks from civil engineer to Utilities Director, overseeing the Electric, Water, Sewer, Stormwater, Solid Waste, and Railroad divisions. He managed critical infrastructure projects, utility operations, and long-range planning that supported Columbia’s growth and everyday quality of life.
Dave is running for Columbia City Council because he believes the city needs practical leadership focused on core services, infrastructure reliability, responsible growth, public safety, and accountability to taxpayers.
Having worked inside city government for more than two decades, Dave understands both the challenges facing Columbia and what it takes to move projects from planning to completion. His campaign is focused on delivering results, improving city services, and ensuring Columbia remains a strong, safe and vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family.

Dave Sorrell spent more than two decades managing the city systems residents rely on every day — including water, sewer, electric, stormwater, and solid waste services. He believes the city must focus on maintaining core infrastructure, planning responsibly for future growth, and delivering projects efficiently and transparently.
Public Safety
Safe neighborhoods are essential to a strong community. Dave supports providing police, firefighters, and emergency personnel with the tools, staffing, and infrastructure they need to serve residents effectively. Public safety also includes reliable streets, lighting, utilities, and city services that improve quality of life throughout Columbia.
